Plain version: this tool is free and provided as-is. It is a calculator that turns your key into a code. Keeping your own keys and backups safe is your responsibility, and we cannot be liable if you lose access to an account.
1. Agreement
By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
2. What the service is
2FA Live Code is a free utility that generates time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes from setup keys you supply. It runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no subscription and no charge.
3. Provided "as is", with no warranty
The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We have tested the code against the official RFC 6238 test vectors and it re-checks itself at every startup, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated codes will be accepted by any particular service.
4. Your responsibilities
- Keep your own backups. Your original setup keys, backup files and passphrases are yours to safeguard. We hold no copy and cannot recover any of them.
- Passphrases cannot be reset. A forgotten vault or backup passphrase makes that data permanently unreadable. This is a deliberate security property, not a fault.
- Keep your device clock accurate. Codes depend on the current time.
- Use an appropriate tool for high-value accounts. For accounts you cannot afford to lose, a dedicated authenticator app or a hardware security key is a safer place to keep a secret than any web page.
- Protect your device. Anyone with access to your unlocked device, your saved vault passphrase, or a printed recovery sheet can generate your codes.
5. Acceptable use
You may use this tool for accounts you own or are authorised to access. You must not use it to access accounts belonging to others without permission, for anything unlawful, or to attempt to disrupt, overload or compromise the site or its users.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of access to accounts, loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of keys, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use this service — whether or not we were advised such damages were possible.
Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the service, which is nil.
7. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue the service at any time without notice. Because the tool can be downloaded as a single self-contained file, you are encouraged to keep your own copy if continued availability matters to you.
8. Third-party software
This page includes two open-source libraries, unmodified and with their licence notices retained in the source: jsQR (Apache License 2.0) for reading QR codes, and qrcode-generator (MIT Licence) for drawing them. All other code is our own.
9. Trade marks
Google Authenticator, Authy, Aegis and other product names are trade marks of their respective owners. They are referred to here only to describe compatibility. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Silicon Valley, California, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
